The Short Version

If you only read one section, read this one

Sunburnt Atlas is a free, ungated guide — you can read every page without giving us anything. We only collect information when you choose to hand it to us directly: subscribing to the newsletter, or submitting one of the two feedback forms. We don't use tracking cookies, we don't run ad trackers, and we don't sell your information to anyone, ever. The site does use a basic, cookie-free traffic counter (more on that below) that never identifies you personally.

If any of that changes, we'll say so on this page — clearly, not buried in a rewrite you'd never notice.

What We Actually Collect

Three things. That's it.

1. Newsletter signups. If you subscribe, we collect your email address through our email provider, Brevo. That's used to send you site updates and new guides — nothing else, and we don't add you to any list you didn't sign up for.

2. Feedback form submissions. The "Share Your Experience" and "Report Outdated Info / Feedback" forms ask for your name, email address, and whatever you write in the message field. These forms are hosted by Google Forms, so submitting one also means Google processes that data under Google's own privacy policy — we don't control that part, only what happens to your submission once it reaches us.

3. Basic site analytics. We use Cloudflare's built-in web analytics to see things like which pages get read and roughly where traffic comes from. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across visits, and doesn't build a profile of you individually — it only produces aggregate numbers (page views, referrers, general location by country/region). We can't identify you from it, and neither can Cloudflare.

That's the complete list. We don't run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any advertising tracker anywhere on the site.

Who Else Sees It

The services we rely on to run this site

We're a solo-run, independent site — we don't have a marketing department passing your data around. But we do use a small number of outside services to keep things running, and they each process a narrow slice of the information above:

Brevo (email delivery for the newsletter) — stores your email address for as long as you're subscribed. Brevo's privacy policy.

Google Forms (feedback form hosting) — processes whatever you submit through the two forms above. Google's privacy policy.

Cloudflare (hosting and analytics) — serves the site itself and generates the aggregate traffic numbers described above. Cloudflare's privacy policy.

None of these companies are permitted to use your information for their own advertising — they're processing it on our behalf, to do the specific job we hired them for. We don't sell, rent, or trade your information to any other third party, for any reason.

How Long We Keep It

Not forever, and not "just in case"

Newsletter emails are kept for as long as you stay subscribed. Unsubscribing removes you from future sends immediately, and we periodically clear out addresses that have been inactive for an extended period.

Feedback form submissions are kept only as long as it takes to act on them — reading your report, making a correction, or replying to you — and are deleted once that's done, unless we need to keep a record for a longer-running issue.

Analytics data is aggregate and not tied to you individually, so there's no personal record to retain or delete in the first place.

Your Choices

Your information, your call

Wherever you're reading from, you can ask us at any time to:

  • See what information we hold about you.
  • Correct anything that's wrong.
  • Delete your email address or a past form submission.
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter — every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, no account or login required.

To do any of this, just email [email protected]. This is a small, independently run site, so requests are handled personally — we'll respond within 30 days, usually much sooner.

A Few More Things

The rest of the fine print, kept short

Children. Sunburnt Atlas isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, email us and we'll remove it.

Where your data goes. Sunburnt Atlas is run from the United States and hosted on Cloudflare's global network, so information may be processed in different countries as part of normal hosting operations. We only work with providers (Brevo, Google, Cloudflare) that maintain their own safeguards for handling data across borders.

Changes to this policy. If what we collect or how we use it ever changes in a meaningful way, we'll update this page and change the date at the top — not bury a new practice in a routine rewrite.

Questions. Genuinely, just email [email protected]. This policy was written to actually be read, so if something's unclear, that's on us to fix.
