The honest fine print.

Sunburnt Atlas is written to actually help you — plainly, from real experience, with nothing behind a paywall. But it's information and honest opinion, not professional advice. This page explains where the line sits, and why the one thing we ask of every reader is: verify anything that matters before you act on it.

The Short Version

If you only read one part, read this one

Everything on Sunburnt Atlas is shared to make travel, relocation, and life abroad a little easier. It's general information and firsthand experience — not legal, immigration, tax, financial, or medical advice, and no substitute for a qualified professional who knows your specific situation.

Rules, fees, exchange rates, and visa categories change constantly, and they change without warning. We research every page against current sources, date each one, and correct it when a reader flags something — but we can't promise any page is complete, current, or right for your circumstances. Before you act on anything here that carries real consequences — a visa deadline, a tax filing, a medical decision, a large payment — confirm it with the official source or a licensed professional first. Your decisions abroad are your own, and they should be made on verified, up-to-date information, not a single guide.

What This Site Is

Information and experience — not professional advice

Sunburnt Atlas is an independent guide. Much of what's here comes from living it, getting it wrong, and figuring out what actually works — the practical stuff that's usually scattered across government websites, buried in old forums, or lost in translation. That firsthand texture is the whole point of the site.

But experience isn't credentials. We aren't lawyers, immigration agents, licensed financial advisors, accountants, tax professionals, or medical practitioners, and nothing on this site creates a professional or advisory relationship between you and Sunburnt Atlas. Think of it as the well-researched, honest head start a friend who's been through it would give you — a starting point for your own research and your own professional advice, not a replacement for either.

Rule of thumb

If getting it wrong would cost you money, your visa status, your health, or your legal standing, treat this site as the map — and a qualified professional or the official government source as the final word.

The One Rule

Always verify before you act

This is the single most important thing on the page. Every country in this site changes its rules, prices, and processes on its own timeline — sometimes overnight, sometimes retroactively. A figure that was correct the day it was written can be out of date by the time you read it.

Confirm it yourself first

Before you rely on anything here for a visa application, a border crossing, a tax filing, a medical procedure, a property purchase, or a money transfer, confirm the current details directly with the authority that actually controls them — the relevant embassy or consulate, the immigration bureau, the tax authority, the bank, or a licensed professional in that country.

Do not book a flight, sign a lease, wire funds, or show up at a border on the strength of one source — this one included. Cross-check, and check the date.

Where This Matters Most

The four areas to be careful with

Some topics carry more risk than others. On these four, our guidance is a briefing to help you ask better questions — not a decision you should make on our word alone.

Visas & immigration

We're not immigration agents. Visa rules, extension fees, and eligibility shift constantly and are enforced at the discretion of local officials. Confirm current requirements with the country's official immigration authority, embassy, or consulate — or a licensed immigration lawyer — before you travel or file anything.

Legal matters

Nothing here is legal advice, and laws differ by country and change over time. Property ownership, business setup, contracts, and your rights as a foreigner all turn on local law. For anything with legal weight, get advice from a qualified lawyer licensed in that jurisdiction.

Money, banking & tax

We're not financial advisors, accountants, or tax professionals. Costs, exchange rates, banking rules, and tax obligations — at home and abroad — are personal to your situation and change often. Confirm anything financial with your bank and a qualified advisor or tax professional before acting.

Medical & health

Nothing here is medical advice, and we don't endorse any specific hospital, clinic, doctor, or treatment. Health decisions — including care abroad — belong between you and a qualified medical professional who can assess you directly. When in doubt, seek licensed medical care.

Accuracy & Currency

What the “Last Surveyed” date means

Most guides on this site show a "Last Surveyed" date. That's the point we last checked the page against current sources — a genuine freshness signal, not a promise the information is still correct at the moment you're reading it. The closer you are to that date, the more you can trust the specifics; the further away, the more worth re-checking they are.

We work hard to keep things accurate, and we'd rather correct a page than defend a stale one. But we make no guarantee that any content is complete, accurate, current, or fit for a particular purpose, and Sunburnt Atlas isn't responsible for errors, omissions, or anything that's changed since a page was last surveyed. Use the date as your cue to verify.

Links Out

External sites are their own responsibility

We link to outside resources — government portals, banks, service providers, and other useful references — when they genuinely help. Those sites aren't ours, and we don't control their content, accuracy, availability, pricing, or privacy practices. A link isn't an endorsement or a guarantee, and once you leave Sunburnt Atlas, that site's own terms and privacy policy apply, not ours.

If a link is broken, outdated, or points somewhere it shouldn't, tell us and we'll fix it.

Independence

Free, ungated, and honest about money

Sunburnt Atlas is free to read, with no paywalls and no email gates, and the guidance is written independently. We don't publish sponsored content disguised as advice, and no hospital, clinic, bank, agent, or advertiser gets to buy a recommendation here.

If that ever changes — if a page ever contains an affiliate link, a paid partnership, or sponsored content — it will be clearly disclosed on that page, so you always know when there's a commercial relationship behind something you're reading. Either way, a mention on this site is never a paid placement dressed up as a suggestion, and it doesn't change our advice to verify everything yourself.

The commitment

No paywalls. No email gates. No sponsored content disguised as advice. Any commercial relationship, if one ever exists, is disclosed in plain sight.

Your Call, Your Responsibility

Decisions made here are your own

You're free to use everything on Sunburnt Atlas, and we hope it saves you time, money, and stress. But you use it at your own discretion and risk, and you're responsible for how you act on it — including checking that anything important is current, accurate, and right for your circumstances before you rely on it.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sunburnt Atlas and its author aren't liable for any loss, cost, or damage arising from your use of this site or your reliance on anything in it — including decisions about travel, visas, money, property, or health. If you don't agree with that, the site simply isn't the right resource for you, and that's completely fine.

Found Something Wrong?

Tell us — the site gets better that way

Sunburnt Atlas grows stronger through the shared knowledge of travelers, expats, and everyone else navigating life abroad. If something is outdated, incomplete, or just plain wrong, that's exactly the kind of thing we want to hear — so the next person doesn't learn it the hard way.
